The Greek at The Harbor: The New Place For Wine Flights

Ventura, California (May 20, 2009) The Greek at the Harbor, located on the waterfront of the Ventura Harbor, introduces “Wine Flight Wednesdays” a weekly event featuring wines from the various regions of Greece.  Owners Makis and Lynn Mikelatos have reserved the heated enclosed patio for this special event, thus providing the perfect place to enjoy wine flights, small mezedes, and a wonderful view during the mid-week.

“Wine Flight Wednesdays” the creation of manager Melanie Baldonado, has been an effort over two years in the making.  After a family visit to Greece in August of 2007, Aris Mikelatos (son of Lynn and Makis) was impressed by visits to the Domaine Skouras Winery in the Peloponesse, and by the Boutari Winery in Santorini.  He took the first steps by expanding the wine list, and located importers in an effort to get more award winning wines.  The effort was not limited to improving the wine list, but also included improvements to the staff, as the restaurant enforced extensive wine education as a part of its server training.

“We are very happy to finally have the quality of staff in place that enables us to provide the dining experience we have always envisioned,” says manager Melanie Baldonado.  “We will be adding wines every week to the menu, so every guest has the potential to try a new flight or varietal, no matter how many times they have visited.  I am so proud to be a part of this, and am also very confident that our guests will leave thoroughly impressed.”

The limited menu not only features smaller entrees, called “mezedes” in Greece, but  also features food creations by Aris Mikelatos.  The menu has not only authentic Greek dishes, but also introduces California fusion to the restaurant, as choices include a Classic Panini, as well as Tost, (a greek ham and cheese sandwich), and Aris’ own “Spicy Avocado Hummus” which was a favorite at the soft opening held on May 6.

The event will take place every Wednesday starting May 20, 2009, and will occur during the hours of 5-8:30.  Prices range from $10-$25 per flight, and $5-$18 per plate.  Reserve as soon as possible by calling (805) 650-5350, as seating is limited.

The Greek at The Harbor was established in 1994 as one of the premier restaurants for authentic Greek food and nightly entertainment.
